Decon ProGreen has the capability of providing Government & Military organizations such as the National Guard’s CSTs, CERFPs and HRFs with a vastly superior decontamination formula and a means for both analyzing and assessing a HAZMAT threat and responding to that threat effectively.
Decon ProGreen uses a decontamination formula called DF-200, patented by Sandia National Laboratories, and is available from Decon ProGreen in a variety of easy to store, transport and employ containers.
It neutralizes and kills all known chemical and biological warfare agents and is environmentally benign. It alters the hazard and renders the contamination harmless. Decon ProGreen has developed and successfully utilized DF-200 and BROOM in a variety of field-tested, proprietary decontamination protocols. These protocols can be made available to the National Guard’s CBRN units, or their equivalent in other Government & Military organizations.
BROOM is a means to track success and avoid failure in HAZMAT decontamination operations. BROOM makes use of a handheld device that stores a large amount of data. It generates contamination maps and layouts of the location where reconnaissance teams may be collecting samples, develops sampling plans, maintains chain of custody records and captures sample type, surface type, texture, collection method, and other key data that is managed by its contained software-based program.
During time-sensitive events when sampling data is needed quickly, information can be wirelessly transmitted to a PC or central command station outside the contaminated area in a secure manner. The results can be displayed on a map on both the handheld device and the PC, allowing decision makers to determine if an area is truly clean, and to reopen facilities as quickly as possible.

Sampling teams are able to rapidly provide commanders with indoor and outdoor X, Y, Z positioning of contaminants using a laser range finder and a hand-held wireless PDA device with camera, GPS and barcode reading technology. Geostatistical and Uncertainty analyses are then used to create three-dimensional maps of contaminants. BROOM was created to assist those responsible in the military and those who operate airports, transportation centers and high-traffic public buildings to plan for re-occupation and a return to service of their facilities.
The system allows sampling teams to map buildings and enter evidence into a chain of custody more rapidly than can be done with current strategies and tactics. An exercise, in conjunction with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), to test BROOM was held recently at Sandia. NIOSH establishes standards and methods for biological sampling. Previous work done by NIOSH includes anthrax sampling at the Hart Senate Building and at the Brentwood and Trenton, New Jersey postal facilities after the 2001 Anthrax Attacks.
The exercise proved to be a tremendous success and BROOM was found to be highly efficient in sampling operations that involve biological agents and more routine sampling operations in investigations of occupational hazards. PDA devices take images of a room, which are stored in the BROOM database and are accessible along with 3-D geostatistical mapping of contaminants. The BROOM system organizes and consolidates the essential elements of information needed by CBRNe and Incident Commanders. It was developed as a joint effort initiated by the Pentagon and the Department of Homeland Defense in order to improve the nation’s ability to respond future biochemical threats. DF-200 and Decon ProGreen’s supporting protocols eliminate chemicals, biohazards, pathogens, molds, pesticide-resistant insects, allergens as well as dirt and oils from surfaces, clothing, equipment, soil, and the air.
Tested by independent agencies, it is certifiably effective at eliminating most WMD threats and does not just mask or encapsulate them. Certain formulations of DF are designed to leave behind antimicrobial barriers, antifungals and even bedbug growth hormone inhibitors. After years of successful government, commercial and residential applications of the Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) patented DF formulas, Decon ProGreen developed efficient, effective proprietary protocols for a plethora of diverse decontamination and recovery incidents.
In addition to the SNL patented DF formulas, Decon ProGreen also offers the SNL BROOM system that provides real-time situational awareness to remote decision makers. It enables sampling teams with PDAs to wirelessly transfer data through secure networks for analysis in the form 3-D geostatistical mapping, images of sampling locations and chain of custody reports. DF-200 is a broad-spectrum decontamination solution that harmlessly but effectively recovers everything from sick-buildings to vehicles, equipment, personnel, and soil.
